tickle the imagination

It sure has been a busy year and so i thought it was about time i did a blog to let you know some of the things i have been upto!
In January last year i took on an amazing and inspiring role as Explore Editor for the goregous Australian designer and maker magazine Tickle The Imagination.
I have been very fortunate to also have a number of exclusive artist features in the magazine where i have had the opportunity to showcase my illustrations including the latest issue 17 I kokeshi dolls.
For those of you living under a rock TTI, is a quarterly zine based in WA developed to showcase and celebrate the handmade and creative community in Australia.  The zine is available in both digital format and print from a wide selection of newsagents and shops throughout Australia and truely is a beautiful piece of art in itself.

It is conciously put together with the best of the best Australia has to offer from makers , artists, designers, events , markets to visit, the best homemade shops to shop at and of course showcases handmade goodness to buy from jewellery, art, design, homewares to unique ideas and DIY projects.

Last month i also took on the role of ambassador for the ‘tickle the imagination’ magazine  and have a cool little offer to share with you! Subscribe to tickle, and mention ALISHA HINDS in the ‘notes to seller’, and you will receive a geo-inspired ‘three words‘ necklace, valued at $25.  This offer ends Nov 30, 2014. Subscribe by clicking on the ”special offer” image and don’t forget to mention ALISHA HINDS to receive your special offer necklace. It truely is worth the effort!

The latest issue 17 I paper scissors rock is available to purchase online and in print from your local stockist now!

stayfly sydney

Last month Irena Stella from Sydney collective Stayfly invited me to be a part of the three day block party to celebrate the female artists both she and Ladyj Addams were organising to be held at  the aMBUSH gallery launching Friday 20th September 2013 with the event continuing for the duration of the weekend.
StayFly Sydney and its organisation puts together female emcees, dj’s, artists, bgirls and graffiti artists together and after chatting to Irene this journey will hopefully give me opportunities to participate and share initiatives and help me build a strong link of connections, collaborations and friendships within my growing love of street art.
Earlier this month they put together a promo vid where the infamous THORN n IVEY painted a stayfly mural at May’s lane, Newtown and recently put together a tumblr page showcasing the amazing artists involved in the exhibition.
A booklet outlining the full 3 day event and artists involved is due for release soon so be sure to check it out!

cut out

Last month i was lucky enough to feature in the popular and best selling graphic design magazine in Malaysia and South East Asia CUT OUT (Volume 4: Issue 02) which showcases Graphic Design. Pop Culture. & Everything In Between.
This issue had a focus on the TOP 10 best black & white projects including Aloja Negre Wine by Atipus (Spain) with illustration by Oriol Malet.
The magazine is built upon an idea that graphic design is universal and fun. Being the premier local graphic design magazine in Malaysia, CUTOUT embraces the idea and explores the possibilities of design in every page and offers practical know-how for all levels of graphic designers.
CUTOUT covers topics ranging from graphic design to pop culture and anything that’s design-related. These include feature interviews, artwork showcase and how-to articles. Its purpose is to entertain, inspire and inform readers about issues and events of importance to them.
CUTOUT is published three times a year (February, June & October).

freque magazine ~ volume one

Freque (pron. freak) is  a quarterly international print and digital magazine for photographers, models and fashion designers to submit their latest work to. Its goal is to inspire and intrigue its readers with unique, weird, strange and unusual adant-garde photography and fashion.
Freque Magazine is not to be mistaken as an alternative/goth magazine, they simply publish all things that are a bit freaky from whatever genre or inspiration.
Freque Magazine is traditionally not a zine to publish illustrators work (strictly photography) but the fabulous Aston was extremely generous in including my work and a small profile in the very first volume with a whole back cover to shine on!
Freque Magazine is available via MagCloud in print & digital with Volume One featuring fashion designers, photographers & models with outstanding yet strange concepts! CAN’T WAIT for Volume 2 which is sure to be even more amazing!

laser cutting

A few months ago i decided to try my luck setting up my illustrations into a ”cut ready” vector file for Made by White whom a great friend of mine Helen of Melbourne based Blossom & Cat recommended as they are able to produce  custom wood (or plastic) laser cut pieces.
I am very happy with the finished ”maple veneer” pieces which are yet to be  given a dash of acrylic paints! Originally i designed the artwork with the idea that the end product could be bookmarks as pictured but because they turned out so well i am now thinking i can expand on this and be more creative. I am hoping to have more finished pieces to show you in the coming months but for now this is a sneak peak!
